The São Mamede de Infesta house of Abel Salazar (1889-1946), a renowned doctor and professor of Histology at the University of Oporto, was converted into a museum back in 1950 at the behest of Prof. Ruy Luís Gomes and a group of friends. This was indeed due homage to Abel Salazar for all his efforts and intellectual and social contribution towards combating the problems of his times.
Within, the original interior has been maintained enabling the viewing of a series of paintings, sculptures and engravings in addition to a number of personal objects highlighting Abel Salazar's own interest in and talent for the arts.
Of particular note are the studies on Henrique Pousão and works completed in tribute to Soares dos Reis, Columbano and other Portuguese artists and his reflections on the philosophy of Art.
