Linda Toolsema has been in Portugal twice, once in Madeira, where she enjoyed the Levada walks, and then in Porto, where she explored the city and got to know the port wine cellars.
For Linda, Alentejo has everything that you might want in terms of hiking: the landscape, fields dotted with little wild flowers, small streams, peaceful scenery, beaches with impressive cliffs and, on some trails, an unbroken view over the sea. They got to know restaurants that were unpretentious and simple, but where they were able to enjoy the tasty local cuisine. She has good memories of the Portuguese, was charmed by the places she visited and by the friendliness and openness of the people.
Linda Toolsema was born in 1975. She is an economist and graphic artist and lives near Groningen, in The Netherlands. She draws and paints in a range of media and styles but almost exclusively in books. These include artistic diaries in which she mixes various techniques, and smaller notebooks, too, for on-site sketching, with “cleaner” materials such as fountain pens and watercolours. Linda is an active member of the group Urban Sketchers Netherlands and co-organizer of the Groningen group.
