Villa Romana de Parreitas

Villa Romana de Parreitas

Archaeology

Located in the parish of Bárrio, in the municipality of Alcobaça, the roman villa of Parreitas is an archaeological site located near to the Lagoon of Pederneira.

Architectural remains found in this site demonstrate that an ancient settlement existed here, probably dating back to the Iron Age, that was subsequently Romanised between the first and fourth centuries A.D.. Experts believe that this was a rural settlement which, in addition to agriculture and livestock breeding, practised fishing activities in the Lagoon.
The collection of objects include pottery, ornaments and utensils, on display in the Bárrio Monographic Museum.
