Specially for surf lovers

Portugal is known for having perfect conditions for several types of surfing. Pro surfer Garrett also fell in love with Portugal. He shares a journey throughout the country with us in a program that is sure to inspire you and have you dreaming of sun and sea – The McNamara Surf Trip Documentary.

Surfers hailing from all over the world can find many spots that are relatively close to one another along the cost, and a surprising variety of waves.

At Peniche you can find perfect tubes, at Figueira da Foz the sea forms the longest waves in Europe, and the coast along Ericeira, a sleepy fishing town, has been considered a Surf Reserve, 1st in Europe and 2nd worldwide, to name but a few.

But one of the biggest challenges is surfing the giant waves off the coast of Nazaré, which are produced by a seabed geological phenomenon known as the “Canyon”. The waves at Nazaré became world famous after featuring in several international competitions, especially after Hawaiian Garrett McNamara beat the Guinness World Record in 2011 by surfing a 30-metre wave. Drawn by this achievement, many surfers visit Nazaré each year and venture out onto the sea in winter, patiently waiting for the perfect conditions and the biggest waves.
