There are many reasons to visit Companhia das Lezírias, the largest agricultural, livestock farming and forestry holding in Portugal, which is dedicated to activities as diverse as agriculture, cattle breeding, horse breeding, forest management, bird watching, nature tourism and wine and olive oil production.

Created in 1836, Companhia das Lezírias is located between the Tagus and Sorraia rivers and extends over the Lezíria (Wetlands) of Vila Franca de Xira, Charneca do Infantado, Catapereiro and Pauis (Belmonte and Lavouras).

With its unique natural conditions, Companhia das Lezírias, in addition to its agricultural area, has privileged recreational and leisure spaces, where various visitation programmes are offered, as well as events for companies and private groups that provide unique experiences of nature activities and privileged contact with the biodiversity of the Tagus Estuary Special Protection Area (Zona de Proteção Especial do Estuário do Tejo).

Located in the Tagus Estuary Nature Reserve (Reserva Natural do Estuário do Tejo), in the heart of Portugal's most important wetland, EVOA - Visiting and Birdwatching Centre (Espaço de Visitação e Observação de Aves) is the perfect place to get to know the curious fauna and flora of this region up close. Fun and birdwatching are guaranteed between the wetland and the Tagus Estuary, although the species seen change depending on migrations and natural factors.

The estate's extensive vineyard area allows Companhia das Lezírias to also excel in its oenology and wine tourism activities. Throughout the year it is possible to visit its historical and oenological heritage - including the terroir, vineyards, olive groves and winery - as well as getting to know its products through tastings, guided and commented on by the company's oenologists.

To get the full feeling of what it is like to live in perfect communion with nature, there's nothing better than staying in the Companhia das Lezírias’ holiday village, a set of fully equipped wooden houses with a swimming pool, set in a bucolic landscape of cork oaks and stone pines.

Visitors can also learn all about the Lusitano Thoroughbred horse by visiting the Companhia das Lezírias’ Stud Farm (Coudelaria da Companhia das Lezírias), located in Braço de Prata (Samora Correia) and the Alter Stud Farm (Coudelaria de Alter), the oldest stud farm in the world to operate uninterruptedly on the same site, located in Alter do Chão, in the Alentejo, which offers a programme of visits and various equestrian activities.
