The Miracle of the Sardine – Memories and Mysteries of a National Icon

The Miracle of the Sardine – Memories and Mysteries of a National Icon
Events
The exhibition The Miracle of the Sardine - Memories and Mysteries of a National Icon, on display at the Monument to the Discoveries until December 30, reveals the multiple lives of the sardine, from ancient times to the present day, real and imagined, appropriated by popular and erudite culture, not forgetting advertising.
The exhibition tries to answer several questions: How did the sardine become a symbol of Portugal and the city of Lisbon in particular? What events, knowledge and industries contributed to this phenomenon? It also tries to understand how the sardine, fragile and precious, became the muse of art, the sea and industrialists.
