Semana dos Baleeiros runs from August 25 to 31, celebrating the region's whaling tradition and devotion to Nossa Senhora de Lourdes. This great popular festival is one of the most prestigious cultural and tourist emblems of Lajes do Pico, on the island of Pico, in the Autonomous Region of the Azores.

The handicraft fair, the performances by philharmonic bands and folklore groups, the ethnographic parade, the emblematic whaling boat races and the emotional religious ceremonies in honor of Nossa Senhora de Lourdes are other great reasons not to miss this week of festivities.
