Between August 6 and 22, the traditional Assunção Festivities are back, organized by the "Real Irmandade da Nossa Senhora da Assunção - Fábrica da Igreja Paroquial de Nossa Senhora da Lapa", with the support of Póvoa de Varzim City Council.
The highlight of this religious festival of the patron saint of fishermen is the Solemn Eucharist and the Procession of Nossa Senhora d’Assunção, on August 15th. As the procession passes along the Poveira waterfront, the floats are turned towards the sea and thousands of firecrackers are launched in salute to the patron saint of fishermen.
