The opera "Gli Eroi Spartani" ("The Spartan Heroes"), by António Leal Moreira and Gaetano Martinelli, has been revived as a modern premiere in a co-production by the Casa de Mateus Foundation and the Vila Real Theatre. Written in 1788 to celebrate the birthday of the Prince of Brazil, it is now performed by the Mateus Baroque Orchestra, under the direction of Ricardo Bernardes. In the plot, love and heroism intertwine in times of war, symbolizing harmony after the Spartan victory. With staging by Nicolás Isasi and a cast of exceptional soloists, this baroque opera promises a memorable evening of history, music and emotion.
