There's a tennis net, a scoreboard and whistles. The stage is set for a competition that will never happen. Inspired by the carnivals of her childhood in Cape Verde, Marlene Monteiro Freitas subverts rules and expectations. Canine Jaunâtre 3 becomes an unruly game, with 17 player-interpreters, all with the number 3, mechanical bodies and cartoon faces, subject to contradictory rules. Doing, undoing, moving forward, moving backward: these virtuosos lead humanity, without a clear objective, into uncertain territory, where the boundaries between humans, animals and machines blur. An exercise that teaches us to question perceptions that are too comfortable.
